The files behind the numbers

Every measurement we publish comes with the file it came from. Free, no address required, no form in the way. If you cannot check us, we have not measured anything.

Ghost jobs — 302 listings opened one by one

ghost-jobs-302-listings.csv — 36 KB, 302 rows, measured on 2 September 2026.

We took a job board's live listings, sorted them by age, and opened each one to see whether the page still existed. 174 were gone. 128 were still there.

ColumnWhat it holds
employerThe company named on the listing.
age_daysDays between the posting date and 2 September 2026.
http_statusWhat the server answered when we opened it: 200 or 404.
verdictremoved for 404, still open for 200.
urlThe listing itself, so you can open it too.

What this file is not. It is not the board's data. It carries no job description, no salary, no company profile — only the address of each listing and what we measured about it. Republishing their listing text would be copying their content; pointing at it and reporting an HTTP status is not.

Read the sampling before you use the numbers. At most 8 listings per employer (61 employers here), drawn with a fixed seed so the draw can be repeated. Without that cap a single large employer would have carried the result — on this board one of them holds two thirds of the stock. The full method, the survival curve and its confidence intervals are on the sources page for video 4.

It ages. These statuses are from 2 September 2026. A listing alive that day may be gone now, and a 404 will not come back. Re-run it and you will get your own day — that disagreement is the interesting part, not a problem.

Videos 1 to 3 published their method and counts, not a single file: see 01, 02 and 03. From video 4 onward, every measurement ships its file here.
